3 Week Course -
Two separate courses
Dates- October Course - Saturday 11th, 18th and 25th October 2025
&
November Course - Saturday 15th 22nd 29th November 2025
Designed to teach you the fundamental skills of throwing and turning on the pottery wheel. You will be guided through the essential techniques for centering on the wheel and pulling up the walls of the pot which is called throwing. This enables you to craft beautiful pots, cups, and bowls. Two of the Saturday mornings will be spent throwing. The final Saturday, you will spend the class turning your selected pots - turning is a critical process that involves removing excess clay and refining the overall shape of your pottery. You will also have the opportunity to create handles, transforming some of your items into delightful cups. If you have the time, you can decorate your creations using colored slips and underglazes. Alternatively, if you spend the whole class turning, you can choose a glaze from a selection of vibrant colors, and I will take care of glazing your pots for you. The course fee includes four pieces of finished work for you to keep, with additional pieces available for an extra charge. Every piece you make will remain at the studio to dry, undergo a bisque firing to 1000C, then are glazed and fired a second time to a temperature of 1200°C. You can expect them to be ready for collection—or shipped at an additional cost—approximately 3 to 4 weeks later.
Classes are from 10am to 12.30pm. Class size 4 people.
(There is an option of an additional class to decorare and glaze your work at a later date. This will be discussed in class)
The course is €185 per person.

My studio
Based in beautiful Kilkenny City, my studio is conveniently located in my back garden which is a short 10 minutes walk from Parliament Street. The studio has 4 teaching wheels and one extra wheel for demonstrations, so everyone will have access to a wheel throughout the course.
I will provide tools, a good quality clay and aprons. Wear something that enables you to sit around the pottery wheel comfortably and roll your sleeves up to your elbows. A layer that keeps your body warm and arms free is good to have this time of year. Please tie long hair back.
The Small print
Due to the small class size (4) the class may not go ahead if there are not enough participants.
No refunds can be given if you cancel with less than 7 days notice. Up to 10 days before, you can transfer your space to someone else, if you wish or contact me as I may have a waiting list
If I need to cancel a class, due to not having enough participants, I will let you know as soon as possible. If I am unable to attend l a class due to illness or other emergency, I will notify you as soon as possible and/or try my best to find a replacement teacher.
The course price does not include postage of the ceramics after the glaze firing. Postage usually costs no more than €13.

“Aisling is a wonderful pottery teacher, sharing her knowledge generously with really clear explanations and demonstrations. She always encourages us to push ourselves to learn new techniques, providing support and encouragement while knowing when to step back and let students experiment, try, and learn for ourselves. She fosters a wonderful learning environment in her pottery studio, where we were all able to focus on our own specific projects and paths if we chose, and be inspired by each other under Aisling’s guidance. I started in Aisling’s classes in 2024 on a recommendation from a friend, and have since gone on to recommend her myself to anyone who will listen (and is able to snag a place!)”

“I have attended pottery classes with Aisling since 2022. She is a wonderful teacher who creates a warm, welcoming environment that makes learning comfortable and inspiring. With endless patience and encouragement, she guided me from never having thrown clay to confidently working on more complex forms and glazing techniques. “Aisling is such an amazing teacher she helps bring all ideas to life and I definitely feel she pushes me to try bigger and better pieces! She is so calm in the studio and really brings a group together. Over the years of being her student I can't believe some of the pieces she has helped me make I definitely wouldn't have been able to do some of them without her guidance. Her knowledge, expertise and creative passion just glows when she's teaching.”
